Summer stroll along the shore of Lake Ontario


With a surface of 7,340 sq mi (19,000 km2), Lake Ontario is the smallest of the five Great Lakes which are interconnected and form the largest group of freshwater lakes on Earth by total area, and second largest by total volume containing 21% of the world’s surface fresh water by volume.

  1. Such cool and refreshing pictures this stifling hot evening in SE France. I flew over Lake Michigan from Boston to Chicago two Christmases ago and all of a sudden that fact , that 21% fact penetrated my dense skull. The Great Lakes are a wonder of this earth and to be protected at all costs.
