None… I’m imagining that what ever it was happened when the tree was very young.

Had it kept going up the tree, I would have assumed a lightning strike. It looks natural as opposed to man-caused. Thanks. –Curt

Another possibility is someone stripping the bark off when the tree was young, like a porcupine. Alway fun to wonder. –Curt
